Baby Botox is a low-dose, preventive application of botulinum toxin type A using around 30–50% of the standard dose. The aim: a discreet smoothing of emerging expression lines without restricting movement — natural facial expression stays visible. Zones, technique and aftercare are the same as in the regular treatment; only the amount of active substance is lower.

Baby Botox at our practice in Munich starts from €250 per zone (net) — the same starting price as the standard dosage, because the medical service is the same. The total cost depends on the number of zones and the dosage determined individually; you receive the specific calculation in the initial consultation (€100, creditable).

Typically from the mid-20s, when first expression lines on the forehead, in the glabellar line or at the corners of the eyes become visible in movement but still smooth out at rest. Beyond adulthood there is no fixed minimum age — what matters is the individual facial expression, which we assess in the initial consultation. Without recognisable expression lines we advise against treatment.

Because of the reduced dosage, Baby Botox typically lasts three to four months — somewhat shorter than the standard dose (3–6 months). A top-up around three to four times a year is the rule. With repeated treatment at regular intervals, many patients find in practice that the duration of effect becomes longer, so that after 1–2 years a 4-month rhythm is often sufficient.

Only the dose. Baby Botox uses around 30–50% of the standard dose in the same injection points. The result is more discreet — the muscles are slowed, not stilled — and, at 3–4 months, lasts somewhat less long. For deep lines that are visible at rest as well, the low dose is usually not sufficient; the standard dosage or a combination with hyaluronic acid then makes sense.

That is exactly the purpose of the low dosage: forehead, eyebrows and the area around the eyes continue to move naturally, and the lines merely become softer. When in doubt we deliberately dose too cautiously and adjust after 14 days — not the other way round.

Expression lines arise from the repeated movement of the same muscles. If that movement is slowed over a longer period, the lines etch themselves less deeply into the skin — that is the preventive thinking behind Baby Botox. It is not a guarantee against line formation; skin quality, sun protection and genetics play just as much of a role.

Baby Botox relaxes muscles and works on dynamic lines that form in movement. Hyaluronic acid fills volume and works on static lines and loss of volume. For first expression lines Baby Botox is usually the fitting method; for loss of volume in the cheeks, lips or tear trough, hyaluronic acid. We discuss the right choice in the initial consultation.

For deep, static lines the low dose is not sufficient. Like every botulinum toxin treatment, Baby Botox is contraindicated in pregnancy, while breastfeeding, in neuromuscular disorders (e.g. myasthenia gravis, ALS), where there is a known allergy to the active substance, in acute infections in the treatment area and where there is active anticoagulation that cannot be paused.

For two reasons — one legal, one ethical. First, the German Heilmittelwerbegesetz (§ 11 HWG, the Health Advertising Act) prohibits advertising surgical plastic procedures with before-and-after photographs on publicly accessible websites — a rule in force since 2012 that protects patients from distorted promotional depictions. Second, we respect our patients' privacy: even where written consent exists, many would rather intimate photographs of their body did not circulate on the open web. What you can expect instead: in the personal initial consultation (€100) we show you anonymised examples from our own practice documentation — matched to your indication, your build and your aesthetic goal. Those images are shown with the written consent of the patients concerned, exclusively within the protected setting of the consultation, and are never published online. You get a realistic sense of what to expect without anyone having to give up their privacy for someone else's advertising.

Three objective criteria help you get your bearings. First, the specialist qualification: "Facharzt für Plastische und Ästhetische Chirurgie" is a legally protected German specialist title requiring several years of specialist training — unlike general, unprotected descriptions such as "cosmetic surgeon". Second, membership of a medical professional society such as the DGPRÄC (the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons), which requires binding professional standards and continuous further training. Third, the quality of the consultation: a reputable practice takes its time, is honest about risks, alternatives and realistically achievable results, and does not push you towards a decision.
