What is Lip fillers with hyaluronic acid?
Lip fillers with hyaluronic acid are the non-surgical method for modelling the lips and increasing their volume. At the Ästhetik am Isartor practice in Munich the treatment is carried out under the medical direction of Dr. Fabian Weinschenk. We use exclusively CE-certified, body-identical, biodegradable hyaluronic acid with an integrated local anaesthetic. The aim is a harmonious contour that suits you individually, not a trout pout. The treatment takes about 30 minutes, the result is visible immediately, and the final result after one to two weeks. The effect typically lasts six to twelve months. The key statement: hyaluronic acid is reversible — if you are unhappy, hyaluronidase dissolves the material within hours. Where the upper-lip distance is long, the bullhorn lift is the surgical alternative.
Active substance: body-identical, synthetically produced, biodegradable hyaluronic acid (a polysaccharide) with an integrated local anaesthetic. We use exclusively CE-certified lip fillers from established manufacturers that are licensed in Germany (the material class recommended by the DGPRÄC). For legal reasons (§ 8 HWG, the German Health Advertising Act, which prohibits advertising with the brand names of medicinal products or medical devices outside professional circles) we carry no brand advertising on this website. Suitability
Who is Lip fillers with hyaluronic acid suitable for?
Lip fillers with hyaluronic acid supplement the body's own volume and its capacity to bind water. You choose between three effects: more volume in the vermilion, a clearer contour line including the Cupid's bow, or corners of the mouth lifted discreetly. We treat with restraint — a 'trout pout' effect is explicitly not the aim.
Suitable for
Hyaluronic acid lip treatment is suitable where there is a wish for more lip volume without a 'trout pout' effect, an undefined contour line / an unclear Cupid's bow, thin lips or lips that have become thinner with age, drooping corners of the mouth, marionette lines below the corners of the mouth, and asymmetric lips that are to be harmonised. Preconditions: stable general health, realistic expectations — the hyaluronic acid treatment builds lip volume up step by step and naturally, without the typical 'overfilled' look of an overdosed filler. Where there is a combined problem with expression lines around the mouth (perioral fine lines, for example), combining it with micro-Botox can make sense.
Not suitable for
Hyaluronic acid lip treatment is not appropriate in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid or its constituents, during acute cold-sore outbreaks (treatment is possible once they have healed; where there is a history, preventive antiviral treatment applies), with acute infections or skin conditions in the treatment area, with active anticoagulation that cannot be paused, and with autoimmune conditions in an active flare. Where the upper-lip distance is very long (the distance from the base of the nose to the vermilion border more than approx. 18 mm) hyaluronic acid alone reaches its limit — the bullhorn lift is the permanent surgical alternative there.

No blood-thinning medication in the 7 days before the treatment. No alcohol on the day of treatment. Where there is a history of cold sores: preventive antiviral treatment 24 h beforehand. Remove lip make-up before the treatment — this is a lunchtime treatment session. On request, an additional topical anaesthetic cream 20-30 minutes beforehand; the hyaluronic acid product also contains an integrated local anaesthetic.

Peak of the swelling.
Slight swelling can increase over the first 24-48 h — that is part of the normal course of healing. Hyaluronic acid binds tissue fluid; the initial swelling recedes quickly. Social life unrestricted; before important appointments we recommend leaving a buffer of 3-7 days after the treatment.

The final result becomes visible.
The swelling subsides completely. The material settles into the chosen depth plane over the first 7-14 days. Final assessment after 14 days — where fine adjustment makes sense, more can be added (a second small session rather than a maximum dose).

A stable effect.
The material works steadily. The body's own breakdown begins gradually; because the mouth area moves a great deal, hyaluronic acid in the lips is broken down faster than in the cheeks, for example. A top-up is typically needed after 6-12 months.

Hyaluronic acid lip treatments with body-identical hyaluronic acid and blunt microcannulas or fine 30G needles are among the safest aesthetic procedures. Because the lip region is strongly vascularised, however, the treatment demands particular care. All risks are documented in detail in the informed-consent consultation in accordance with § 8 HWG.

Slight swelling of the lip in the first 24-48 h, small bruises at the puncture sites and tenderness are the typical post-injection course — they typically subside completely within 3-7 days. Before important appointments we recommend leaving a buffer of 3-7 days after the treatment.
- Specific
Asymmetric results after an overly conservative first dose can be fine-tuned precisely after 2 weeks — we prefer the conservative first approach and would rather add afterwards than put in too much at once. Visible or palpable tiny nodules can be dissolved with gentle massage and/or a targeted injection of hyaluronidase. Reactivation of cold sores where there is a history is minimised by preventive antiviral treatment 24 h before the procedure.

Allergic reactions to body-identical hyaluronic acid are very rare — the active substance corresponds to the body's own polysaccharide. A vascular occlusion (a vascular complication) is extremely rare where blunt microcannulas, an aspiration test and proper medical injection technique are used; because the lip region is strongly vascularised, however, the treatment demands particular care. In the rare event of a complication the antidote hyaluronidase is immediately available at every treatment and dissolves the material within 24-48 hours. Infections are extremely rare with proper asepsis.

The bullhorn lift (lip lift) is then the more suitable method: surgery that shortens the distance permanently and raises the vermilion.
