What is Hyaluronic acid treatment (liquid lifting)?
Hyaluronic acid treatments are the non-surgical method with which we replace lost volume and inject static lines. At the Ästhetik am Isartor practice in Munich they are carried out under the medical direction of Dr. Fabian Weinschenk. We use exclusively synthetically produced, body-identical, biodegradable hyaluronic acid (recommended by the DGPRÄC). Typical indications: marionette lines, cheek and cheekbone contouring, the temple area, the jawline, the chin, lip volume and contouring, the corners of the mouth, and so-called liquid lifting (volume restoration across several zones together). A session takes 20 to 30 minutes as an outpatient procedure, on request after an anaesthetic cream has been applied. The effect sets in immediately after the treatment and reaches its final result after two to three days. Depending on the area, the depth of injection and individual factors such as metabolism and skin structure, it as a rule lasts six to twelve months. In regions that move more, particularly the lips and mouth, durability can be shorter, while less mobile areas such as the cheeks or chin often hold longer. A top-up usually follows every 6 to 12 months, adjusted individually to the findings and the desired result.
Active substance: body-identical, synthetically produced, biodegradable hyaluronic acid (a polysaccharide; the material group recommended by the DGPRÄC). We use exclusively CE-certified fillers from established manufacturers that are licensed in Germany. For legal reasons (§ 8 HWG, the German Health Advertising Act, which prohibits advertising with the brand names of medicinal products or medical devices outside professional circles) we carry no brand advertising on this website. Hyaluronidase is kept available as the antidote for dissolving the material at every treatment. Mandatory information under § 8 HWG is handed out in the personal informed-consent consultation.
Suitability
Who is Hyaluronic acid treatment (liquid lifting) suitable for?
Hyaluronic acid builds volume where ageing or anatomy has left it missing — and it fills static lines that remain visible at rest. For expression lines botulinum toxin is the right procedure; for volume and static lines, hyaluronic acid is.
Suitable for
Typical indications: contouring of the cheeks and cheekbones, the temple area, lip volume and lip contouring, the chin, the jawline, the corners of the mouth and so-called liquid lifting (volume restoration across several zones together).
Not suitable for
A hyaluronic acid treatment is not appropriate in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid or its constituents, with acute infections or skin conditions in the treatment area (for example a herpes outbreak or an acne flare), with active anticoagulation that cannot be paused, and with autoimmune conditions in an active flare. For purely expression lines without a volume deficit (forehead, glabella, crow's feet) hyaluronic acid is the wrong procedure — Botox is used there.
Which area and what quantity make sense is something we decide together in the personal initial consultation (€100). We dose conservatively and across several sessions rather than with one maximum dose — the 'natural fill' approach is our line.

The key statement about hyaluronic acid treatment: the material introduced is reversible. If you are unhappy with the result, or in the rare event of a complication (a vascular occlusion, for example), an injection of hyaluronidase dissolves the material completely within hours. Permanent fillers do not have this safety net — which is why we consistently do not use them.

How the procedure works
Four clearly separated steps — from the initial consultation through the 20-30-minute treatment in your lunch break to the aftercare with its 24-hour rules.

In the personal initial consultation we clarify what you would like and the medical preconditions, and go through any relevant pre-existing conditions. The conversation and the physical examination are at the centre of it, so that we can develop a treatment plan tailored to you. We take a conservative, aesthetically balanced approach and attach great importance to natural results. Mandatory information under § 8 HWG is handed out as part of the informed-consent consultation.
Schritt 02Preparation
No blood-thinning medication in the 7 days before the treatment. No alcohol on the day of treatment. Remove make-up in the target area before the treatment — this is a lunchtime treatment session. On request, a local anaesthetic cream 30 minutes beforehand (applied at the practice).
Schritt 0320–30 minTreatment
The treatment areas are marked with the patient sitting or standing upright, so that the natural anatomy and facial movement are taken into account as well as possible. A local anaesthetic cream is then applied, if you wish. The injection is precise and adapted individually to the region in question and to the anatomy. The aim is an even, harmonious distribution of the hyaluronic acid for a natural result. Depending on the area, only a few puncture points are usually needed, which keeps the treatment gentle overall.

Make-up possible straight away. For 24 hours: no exercise, no sauna, no alcohol, no intense sun. Slight swelling or a feeling of pressure in the first hours — you can address it yourself with a cooling pad. The effect sets in immediately, the maximum effect after 1-2 days, and lasts 6-12 months.

Maximum effect after 1-2 days — the hyaluronic acid has bound tissue fluid and developed its full volume. Slight redness or small bruises subside within 3-5 days. Social life unrestricted.

A stable effect.
The material works steadily across the whole duration of effect. The body's own breakdown begins gradually and stays almost imperceptible, because the volume recedes step by step.

The top-up window.
The duration of effect is typically 6-12 months depending on the area: deeper structures (the cheekbone) last longer, lips less long. When a top-up makes sense is something we discuss individually at the follow-up appointment.

Risks & informed consent
Hyaluronic acid treatments with body-identical hyaluronic acid are an established aesthetic procedure. All risks are documented in detail in the informed-consent consultation in accordance with § 8 HWG.
- General
Local redness, small bruises and slight swelling in the treatment area are the typical post-injection course — they typically subside completely within 1-7 days. Blunt microcannulas markedly reduce the risk of bruising compared with conventional needles. Make-up immediately after the treatment conceals any redness.
- Specific
Tenderness when the area is touched in the first days is normal and subsides as the material settles into the depth plane. Asymmetric results after an overly conservative first dose can be fine-tuned precisely after 2 weeks — we prefer the conservative first approach and would rather add afterwards than put in too much at once. Visible or palpable tiny nodules can be dissolved with gentle massage and/or a targeted injection of hyaluronidase.
- Very rare
Allergic reactions to body-identical hyaluronic acid are very rare — the active substance corresponds to the body's own polysaccharide and is broken down by the body. A vascular occlusion (a vascular embolism) is extremely rare; in the rare event of a complication the antidote hyaluronidase is immediately available at every treatment and dissolves the material within hours. Infections are extremely rare with proper asepsis.

What if I am unhappy with a result from another practice and would like it dissolved?
Even where the hyaluronic acid treatment was carried out at another practice, it is in principle possible to dissolve the material in a targeted way. In a personal consultation we assess the current situation and the position and quantity of the existing filler. Dissolving is done with a special enzyme that breaks hyaluronic acid down. The aim is to restore a harmonious starting point and, where needed, to make a precise new treatment possible afterwards. The approach is planned individually, guided by the findings, the symptoms and your aesthetic ideas.
Hyaluronic acid or Botox — what is the difference?
Botox (botulinum toxin) relaxes the muscles of facial expression — for dynamic lines that arise in movement (forehead, glabella, crow's feet). Hyaluronic acid builds volume and fills static lines — for nasolabial folds, marionette lines, tear troughs, cheeks and lips. Where both an expression and a volume problem are present (typically from the mid-forties) combining the two procedures makes sense; we discuss the right distribution in the initial consultation.
How long does hyaluronic acid last?
6-12 months depending on the area and the depth. Deeper structures (cheekbones, midface) last longer (8-12 months); material placed superficially (lips) lasts less long (6-8 months). A top-up is typically needed about once a year.

Local reactions (redness, small bruises at the puncture sites, slight swelling) are typical and subside within 1-7 days. With blunt microcannulas instead of conventional needles the risk of bruising is markedly reduced. Rarely: palpable tiny nodules (dissolvable with massage or hyaluronidase). Very rarely: vascular occlusion — structurally minimised by blunt cannulas; the antidote hyaluronidase is kept ready at every treatment.
Can I go in the sun or the sauna after the treatment?
Avoid exercise, sauna, intense sun and alcohol for 24 hours. Make-up is possible again straight away. If there is slight swelling in the first hours, a cooling pad helps.
How many sessions do I need?
Usually one session per treatment area. Where volume deficits are larger (a pronounced loss in the midface after significant weight loss, for example) we are glad to spread the treatment across 2-3 sessions 2-4 weeks apart — that delivers a more precise and more natural final result than a maximum dose. A top-up is typically needed once a year.
Which brand do you use?

When is hyaluronic acid NOT appropriate?
Hyaluronic acid is contraindicated in pregnancy, while breastfeeding, with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid, with acute skin infections or autoimmune flares in the treatment area, and with active anticoagulation that cannot be paused. For purely expression lines without a volume deficit (forehead, glabella) botulinum toxin is the right procedure. We establish the indication in the initial consultation.
Why don't you show before-and-after photographs on your website?
For two reasons — one legal, one ethical. First, the German Heilmittelwerbegesetz (§ 11 HWG, the Health Advertising Act) prohibits advertising surgical plastic procedures with before-and-after photographs on publicly accessible websites — a rule in force since 2012 that protects patients from distorted promotional depictions. Second, we respect our patients' privacy: even where written consent exists, many would rather intimate photographs of their body did not circulate on the open web. What you can expect instead: in the personal initial consultation (€100) we show you anonymised examples from our own practice documentation — matched to your indication, your build and your aesthetic goal. Those images are shown with the written consent of the patients concerned, exclusively within the protected setting of the consultation, and are never published online. What should I look for when choosing a doctor for aesthetic plastic surgery in Munich?
Three objective criteria help you get your bearings. First, the specialist qualification: "Facharzt für Plastische und Ästhetische Chirurgie" is a legally protected German specialist title requiring several years of specialist training — unlike general, unprotected descriptions such as "cosmetic surgeon".
